Chapter 33: The Chocolates

The Chocolates : (Chapter 33)

Tea, Kerry’s humour, and our plan

“Mum, I can’t believe you didn’t come to bed,” said Kerry. “I nearly did, darling, yet I just passed out; thanks to you, I had the best sleep ever,” I replied. “That’s good, did you really?” she asked. “Yes, my darling,” I replied. “Cup of tea, darling,” I said. “Do you still have the mint tea bags, mum?” she asked. I rolled my eyes and obviously said, “Yes, my darling.”

Kerry and I can go from a baby with mummy and then the next moment to 2 women on a hunt. Kerry and I have only 15 years between us, yet I am not her sister or her best friend; I am her mother, and she is my beautiful daughter.

So, there we were, Kerry drinking a strange minty tea and me with a normal tea bag cup of tea, ok not quite a normal cup of tea as it contained soja milk tee hee, not my choice, I have extremely high cholesterol and because of my 30 a day cup of tea addiction it does help.

The plan and the dogs

Our plan was set. We walk all the dogs across the field, and then I point to the lady’s house, and I wait with all the dogs, and Kerry goes in.

“How do I get to it, mum?” she asked, “Well, walk to the right, cross the bridge thing, go right and then there are the gates, for goodness sake,” I replied. “Calm down, dear,” she replied. “Just go, for goodness sake,” I said.

Then off she went, as I sat with all the dogs on a rock. Jeremy and Peter were off of the leads and followed Kerry for a while, yet Kerry and I knew it wouldn’t be long before they ran back to me. Kerry looked back at me right at that moment when Peter and Jeremy glanced back and ran towards me. I couldn’t quite see, yet Kerry and I know we both laughed at that same moment.

The truth and disappointment

Carol and a few others knew our plan, and the messages were coming through. Kerry wasn’t even there yet, so I just held on to saying nothing. Then I let out, not a scream yet a: you got to be joking me moment, as I realized I was actually sitting on a bloody ant’s nest, yes, this was a close call of real ants in your pants. You need to remember this was me in hiding while Kerry was about to shout at the lady’s gate.

As Kerry pointed at the gate, I was kind of dancing, basically shaking off all of the ants. Oh, it was so quick as the next moment I flew under the rock, yes the lady was walking towards the gate. Thankfully none of the dogs barked; they were kind of stressed, wondering what the hell I was doing.

Kerry was in; I was now dusting myself off and finding a new ant-free hiding place.

“Shit, that was quick,” I said. Kerry was there back up in the field. “Mum, she doesn’t have George,” she said.

Kerry explained how the lady was lovely and how she even asked to use the bathroom; Oh, Kerry checked everything, and no, no, George. “Mum, George so isn’t there,” Kerry said again.

It’s a strange thing because Kerry had told me that George wasn’t there, that I instantly knew this to be true.

Back home again

We then went home, kind of deflated as our plan had come to nothing; I then messaged Carole and everyone basically, just simply the words, “No, he isn’t there,” that was enough, and no one questioned it.

“Kerry, Claudia will be here in a bit; what do we need to take with us.” I said, “Nothing, mother just us,” she replied. “No, you need your shoes,” I said. “Oh yes, sometimes you are a good mother,” she replied.
