Chapter 20: The Pendulum Reading

An Unusual Clue in the Search for George

“Mum, wake Martyn up, or he will sleep in,” the message came through from Kerry. That was the first time that my phone had actually woken me up. I was amazed it was 7am. I wonder if she had never sent that message as to what time I would have woken up, maybe 7am the following day, LOL.

A Strange Message

It took me a while to work out where I was and who I was as I started looking at my phone; I 100% knew. I then spotted a feed of messages from one particular lady. It began like this: “Please could you call me as you will think that I am mad, but I need to speak to you.” Frantically punching in the number, she answered. “A few weeks ago, my son lost his keys miles away from our home, and I have a pendant. I swung it around a map area, and it landed; my son went to the exact location where the pendant landed, and he found his keys,” she said. “Ok,” I said. “Well, I was concentrating on your George, and I will now send the location as to where the pendant landed,” she said.

The map came through WhatsApp with a red dot as to where the pendant had landed.

Setting Out

“MARTYN, MARTYN, GET UP”. I was kind as I also made him a coffee, “Look at this,” I said. Then as I sat there talking to him, I started to think, “OH my god, I am going to go to an area looking for George just because a lady threw a pendant in the air.”

So, obviously, I thought that I was going mad, then Martyn came through for me and said, “Christine, I am with you, and if this is a nutter, we will find out, yet if George is there?”

So, off we went, I parked up, and Martyn went that way, and I went the other way.

The Search

After a bloody lot of whistling and feeling like a total idiot, we headed home; we didn’t speak in the car.

“Suppose at least we went,” Martyn said. “Yes,” I mumbled.

We now only had 3 hours until I had to take Martyn to the airport. “What needs doing,” said Martyn.

There was a plant that I had been meaning to attend to for weeks, so I got Martyn sorting that, and then I looked around and decided just to leave everything.

One Last Task Before the Airport

I then looked at my little Kev, “Martyn, could you do your best to get Kev to run for his ring, as since George has been gone, he hasn’t asked for it to be thrown once.” “Yep, no problem,” Martyn replied. Martyn really persevered, and I could hear him every minute shouting, “Go get it, Kev”. I did have a little chuckle picturing him walking to get it as Kev was having none of it. Yet then I heard those words, “Well done, Kev”. It brought a tear to my eye, Martyn had done it, and Kev was chasing his ring.

Heading to the Airport

It wasn’t long before we were heading off to the airport; I have no idea how I got there or how I got home. I was on autopilot, I asked Martyn to message me as soon as he got home, and that was it; he was gone.

Back Home

As soon as I got home, the heavens opened again. However much I tried to control my feelings, I just couldn’t. All I could think of was George out there alone in the storms. I tried to think of him finding shelter, and yet then all I could vision was him walking along a track, lost and scared. The mind is a beautiful thing, yet sometimes it can be your worst enemy.

Late-Night Conversations

I spent the next few hours on the phone, and a long conversation with Kerry, then before I knew it, Martyn was home. This was 11:30pm.

I knew that I needed wine or I would never be able to sleep, and just as I poured myself a glass, my phone was about to go flat, so yet again, I was sitting on a cold tiled floor as I plugged my phone in.

A Message from Julie

“Are you shitting me?” I said as my phone bleeped at past midnight, then and I looked, and it was a message from our Julie. I can’t explain the comfort I felt that I had someone to message at this time of night. We messaged, and we messaged from thinking George may have been taken for dog bate, his chip even removed or even the fact that if he had been moved outside of Andalucia that his chip wouldn’t even register. I know I couldn’t believe that either I always thought a chip was worldwide or at least a complete Country. I now know that this isn’t the case, and obviously, you know this too. Our Julie is a very matter-of-fact girl, yet wow, she cares, she cares so much. She was the girl that I trusted, trusted to tell me straight. Our Julie also respected other people’s opinions and beliefs, and when I told her about the lady with the pendant, she didn’t contradict anything.

2am Reflections

It was now past 2am, and I wondered if our Julie actually ever slept as I knew that she had a full-time job working 6 days per week. She also had many dogs and a boyfriend living with her (he must so love her, I always thought as she was talking to me, more than him for the past week).
